We support members of Competence Centres in succeeding in their research and development goals.

FIDEA aims to reduce Competence Centres of bureaucracy labour and enables Centres to focus solely on innovation.

Pharmacy, Biomedicine and Medical Technology Competence Centre

We support Pharmacy, Biomedicine and Medical Technology development. 

Establishment of Cooperation CFLA with contract No 1.2.1.1/18/A/005 concluded on 29/04/2019.


Pharmacy, Biomedicine and Medical Technology Competence Centre encompasses two main focuses:

  • Pharmacy, first-generation medicine and genetic medicine;

  • Medicine of natural substance, supplements, functional cosmetics.


The aim of Competence Centre is to facilitate more integrated cooperation between research centres and entrepreneurs by developing new products within the technology industry and introducing them to production sector, thus increasing competitiveness of the industry.

The framework of the project is provided by Smart Specialisation Strategy of Latvia in Biomedicine, Medical Technology, Biopharmacy and Biotechnology. Competence Centre objective is to support 11 research projects and at least 6 merchants that will bring in production new and innovative technology.

The aggregated research expenses are estimated at EUR 11 759 808.73 out of which European Regional Development Fund provides EUR 4 708 111.50.

Project is set to be completed until 31st of December 2021.

Latvian Food Industry Competence Centre

Framework of research project is provided by Latvian Food Industry Competence Centre. Competence Centre research directions:

  • Growth of Latvia’s Food Production market

  • Increase of production added value and competitiveness

Energy and Transport Competence Centre

Energy and Transport Competence Centre is specialising in Smart Energy areas and focuses on:

  • GENERAL MATTERS OF SMART ENERGY;

  • SMART ENGINEERING SYSTEMS AND ENERGY PRODUCTION SOLUTIONS;

  • SMART ENERGY AND TRANSPORT.


Energy and Transport Competence Centre objectives include completing 10 research projects on the topics listed above in order to develop new products and technology of production in the aim of further increasing integrated cooperation of research and producer industry and raising the competitiveness of the sector.

The Centre supports altogether 10 projects including 11 merchants who will further introduce new products and technology within the industry.

The European Regional Development fund provides support in total of EUR 4 708 111.50.

Project is set to be completed until 31st of December 2021.

Forest Sector Competence Centre of Latvia

SIA “Forest Sector Competence Centre of Latvia” supports the fourth round of research projects within the framework of “Growth and Employment” 1.2.1 with the objective “Increasing private sector investment of R&D” 1.2.1.1. and the topic “Support the development of new products and technology within Competence Centre”.

Research project title: Forest Sector Competence Centre of Latvia Project No 1.2.1.1/18/A/004

The competence centre encompasses two science specific topics:

  • Enlargement of Forest capital value and Forestry

  • New Timber Material and Technology


Competence Centre objective is to further integrate science sector and production industry and raise their competitiveness by providing research along the current market trend, develop new product and technology for the industry and support their introduction to the market.


Project is done in the framework of the Smart Specialisation Strategy of Latvia “Bioeconomy” section under subsection “Innovative solutions of Forestry and Timber Material processing”. Competence Centre objective is to support 13 research projects and at least 6 merchants that will bring in production new and innovative technology.


The aggregated expenses of research projects are estimated at EUR 8 000 000.00 out of which European Regional Development fund provides EUR 4 708 111.50.

Project is set be completed within the time period of 36 months and finalising on 31st of December 2021.

Competence Centre of Smart Material and Technology

Project No 1.2.1.1/18/A/007

Establishment of Cooperation CFLA with contract No 1.2.1.1/18/A/007 concluded on 23rd of April 2019.

Financial beneficiary is SIA “VMKC” (LV40203178384).

Project goal:

Smart Material and Technology Competence Centre (SIA “VMKC”) encompasses three science fields -Smart Material, Biotechnology and Environment.

Competence Centre objective is to further integrate science sector and production industry and raise their competitiveness by providing research along the current market trend, develop new products and technology for the industry and support their introduction to the market.


Project is done in the framework of the Smart Specialisation Strategy of Latvia “Smart Material, Technology and Engineering Systems” section within subsection “Smart Material”. Competence Centre objective is to support 13 research projects and at least 9 merchants that will bring in production new and innovative technology.


The aggregated research expenses of projects are estimated over EUR 7 000 000.00 out of which European Regional Development fund provides EUR 4 708 111.50.

Project is set be completed by 31st of December 2021.
